Last week, brooke881 wrote an article called "Fashion Flavor: Let's Be Different." The article featured Whyvillians with original looks. But in the BBS, everyone agreed that these looks were not original. The Whyvillians brooke881 chose to show off, were all following the current Whyville trends. I'm writing this article in response to the one brooke881 wrote. This article has original looks, and not average look-a-like Whyvillians.

When you go to a chat room, you might blend into the people standing around you. That's what fashion trends have done to Whyvillians these days. Everyone's wearing the same face parts and we're not putting any creativity into how we look. We just look the way we do because we want to be in style. In a virtual world full of pixelated clones, originality deserves to be celebrated. I found 6 Whyvillians who don't follow the fashion crowd.

Tip #1: Original looks are timeless and don't need to be updated.

First, is ferrari5x. His face is simply a bug-eyed boy's head with a plaid, purple Scottish golfer cap. Not many Whyvillians would be bold enough to have this look. But ferrari5x seems to be very attached to it because he rarely updates his face. I guess originality never goes out of style.

holiday50: Why do you stay with the same face?
ferrari5x: Because it works for me. I've come across heads that were different in the past, but I settled on this one simply because it was my favourite. It is unique, eye catching, and gives people the message that I don't need to fit in.

Tip #2: Look at the world around you for style inspiration.

Secondly, we have iBmatt. He has a 60's inspired look with his wavy-twisted hairdo. Though his jacket appears green now, iBmatt's jacket changes color in different sized chat rooms. His lip ring, ear piercing, dark shades, and bling definitely give him a rocker edge To give his dark shades a touch of brightness, iBmatt added yellow happy face stickers on them.

holiday50: How did you come up with your "silly-rock star" look?
iBmatt: Well I think I got most of my inspiration from my grandfather. This is how he dresses. He's so hot, I want to be just like him.

Tip #3: Who says you can't have fun being fashionable?

Don't take fashion so seriously. Sometimes just having fun at Pick Your Nose results in an amazingly unique face. Just look at thewee1. His face embodies fashion and fun. He's combined Akbar's Face Mall's Bargain Basement and Code Lyoko face parts to come up with this:

holiday50: What inspired you to look the way you do?
thewee1: I look original because looks don't matter. I put on something that looks fun.

Tip#4: Mix and match the uncommon with the common.

The next nominee definitely puts on face parts that look fun. She used the Code Lyoko Yumi Fan and a red 2008 party hat to create a hat of her own. Jay70s is an excellent example of taking a trend and making it your own. Layering your hair is a popular trend on Whyville, but jay70s layers common hairs to make something uncommon. Jay70s' look is like a jigsaw puzzle; all her face parts are different but Jay70s matched them together. Jay70s coordinated her red hat with her bright red scarf, and the black sleeve on her hand with the black heart imprint on her shirt. Also, her blonde hair matches the yellow dots on her 2008 party hat.

holiday50: How did you come up with your look?
jay70s: I just wanted something different. I thought nobody else wears these Bargain parts, so I decided to buy some and put them on and it actually looked cool.

Tip #5: Instead of shopping at common stores, try fashion-hunting for creative face parts.

LH1995XD also uniquely mixes and matches her outfit with her accessories. Her red overalls, black t-shirt, and the red arrow on the box match the colors on her arm warmers. LH1995XD has some common face parts on, but also some very random ones. You don't see people wearing boxes, confused glasses, or bunny teeth everyday.

holiday50: Why do you choose to look the way you do, and not like everyone else?
LH1995XD: I did it to be different, to stand out and not look like an average Whyvillian.

Tip #6: Take a trend and make it unique by adding your personal style.

Lastly, we have kathryn11. She takes time and thought into creating her looks, such as this spring inspired one. Kathryn11 has also added her own touch to some of Whyville's latest trends -- her blonde hair, blue eyes, and glossy pink lips are very common on Whyville. But that's not what makes her stand out; the large pink flower is very unique. Her red shirt gives the illusion of being the stem of the pink flower.

holiday50: What inspired you to create your look?
kathryn11: I don't like to look like everyone else. I also look all throughout Akbar's Face Mall all the time, so I just look through almost every face part before I decide what I want to look like.

Those were my tips to create an original look. But the pros also had some tips of their own:

holiday50: What tips do you have for Whyvillians wanting to look unique?

ferrari5x: Well first and foremost, don't take it so seriously. Don't forget, this is just a website and anything you do is fine. Whether your face parts are rare or one-of-a-kind isn't as important as long as you are happy with them. The beauty of having an original appearance is that no one has the right to criticize you-what could you possibly be doing wrong? Also, experiment with different ideas. Like I said earlier, I had many unusual heads before I came across this one.
iBmatt: My tip for Whyvillians is don't put extra face parts all at the bottom of your face 'cause that looks ugly :)
thewee1: Try to have fun putting on a look.
jay70s: Just buy what you think looks good and not what you think is in the trend, because being yourself is one step closer to originality.
LH1995XD: I say buy Akbar's Face Parts (about 1 or 2), but be creative and hunt for the rest.

Some of you will probably call these Whyvillians "freaks" or you'll say "I'm not going to look like that because of an article." But I'm not telling you how to look; I'm telling you to put more thought into how you look. Instead of following the latest trend, try being a trendsetter. Or take the current trend and make it your own. We've all got different personalities and fashion is a great way of expressing who we are. Dare to be different; dare to be you.
