i said it wasn't my intention you
had no comprehension all i
did was raise the tension now
you wait for a clean slate
but i don't want one
stalemate

lights and windows surround me faint
reflections they confound me because
when i see them i see you
looming over me and in your eyes
affection without connection
desire without direction

fingers moving faster than our thoughts our lies they
linger here in bookshelves empty save for one
unclaimed piece of paper
torn from my sketchbook

you never made clear your intentions
should i have even mentioned all i
did was defy convention now
you can't carry your weight
i can't bear it for you
stalemate

shadows like your words follow me they
bind they free they hollow me and
it's all i can do to relay them back
going in your ears and out your eyes
thoughts become entwined
the vengeful lead the blind

tears falling faster than our hopes our cries they
linger here in bookstores empty save for one
three word note on paper
the middle word erased

we know it's contradiction to
love it's an affliction all i
did was have conviction now
we stay static it's near too late
is this worth our hearts breaking
stalemate
