Hello there fellow Whyvillians! This is Gcmusic5 hoping you all had a good holiday season and hoping this gets into the Times! A topic that's been on my mind for the past week or so is honesty. I've just recently read the following story in newspaper and it really made me think!

I'm not going to name names so we'll refer to there two people as the little girl and her mother for personal reasons. There was a nation wide contest in the US to win tickets to the concert of the great amazing new talent know as Hannah Montana. The winner would also receive a Hannah Montana make-over from the sponsors of this contest. Now before I get too ahead of my self let me further explain the task you needed to complete to enter this contest. You needed to write an essay on the subject of your choice and maybe a little bit on how you "deserved" to be deemed winner of this contest.

So moving on to the actually story, there was a little girl around six years-old who was eager to enter the contest, and her mother decided to help out and actually write the essay for her! It turns out that the mother wrote about how her husband or the little girl's father had died in Iraq, which would later be discovered as fake and untrue. So after melting the judges' hearts with her story of her "hardship" she was announced as the winner of the contest.

So the little girl goes off to get her make-over and while getting her make-over the press was on the scene to interview the poor little girl who "lost her father" and her mother. Little did the little girl and her mother know the winners of the contest had done a little research on this little girl's father and found out that there was no soldier with the name the mother had came up with and the little girl's so called deceased father was no more than a fake made-up person. During the interview her mother admitted to the lies and the press went wild! Newspapers, TV broadcasts, you name it! Every where you looked there was the story and I came across a website that had a poll asking you your opinion on whether the girl should get to keep the tickets or have them given to another child from the contest. It has turned in to one huge debate and everyone sees a different side.

Now back to the subject of honesty. How could anyone lie like that just to have your daughter win a silly contest? What if there is another child out there who really did lose her father who had entered the contest and lost to a fake story! What about the millions even billions of children who were let down because of one woman's selfishness and greed? Maybe if the child had written a real essay it would have been chosen, who knows? The sponsor of the contest was quoted as saying, "We NEVER thought we would have to do a background check on the winner of the contest to find their essay true or false, this was outrageous and we hope we never have to take action like this again." Now all we can do is wait for the outcome to see if this girl gets her tickets or has them revoked. I'll be sure to write about the outcome as soon as I find out about it.
