Hunting. Many of you hate it, and ask why do the innocent animals get slaughtered? I say that it isn't what you may have thought.
Many an evening I could be caught with my dad in a tree standing out in the woods praying a big buck would come out. Then, a doe (female deer) and a yearling (young deer, one year-old or younger) step out. I get ready, and watch them feed for a while. Then they look away. I pull up my gun and scope them. No, I'm not going to shoot them. Waiting for about two hours for a doe doesn't seem worth it. But wait, you ask why am I here in the first place?
Hunting has been going on since time started. A hawk eats a mouse. Would you complain that the hawk killed an innocent mouse? The hawk has to eat to live, right? I can't see a hawk going vegetarian either. Would you complain if hunting stopped and suddenly everything went extinct? Yes, if animals die then everything dies. Weeds would over grow killing the good plants and making them die. Then the weeds have nothing to support their weak stems. They fall down and get covered by the dirt. Without sun they die. Vegetarians have nothing to eat. Meat eaters didn't have anything once everything died either. So humans would die. Then we would have a nice floating clump of dirt flying around in the solar system. Nice work fellows.
But wait, I'm skipping again. How would something terrible like this happen? Well. If a hawk eats a rabbit, there's another one to replace it since rabbits have so many babies. What if there were no hawks? Then snake population would go up because hawks eat a lot of rabbits when the rabbit population increased. Then bobcats. Then coyotes/wolfs. And maybe badgers. Now, with the population of everything hunting it increases, what happens to the rabbits? They decrease. And it's truly bad, then they become extinct. Nice work again buds. What if in this case, we were the hawk? Yes many hunters go after deer. Deer eat plants, right? They eat weeds also. Weeds overgrow and suck the life out of everything. Seems familiar? Back to the hunt.
Then a buck steps out. I quickly move my scope to him, taking slow movements. He was a nice 10-point. He walked out onto the small plot we were hunting, taking slow steps. I was waiting for him to come into range when the doe snorted. (Snorting means that it has seem something or smelt something. Not a good sign in hunting.) I quickly glanced at her but put the cross hairs on the buck, which stood perfectly still. Steadying my breathing and arms, I shot. It was a loud shot and the deer started to run away, limping. He quickly died and we claimed my prize of the hunt. A lot of work for a deer huh? Well yes it is.
Now think, if I hadn't killed that deer, how could he have died? More than likely he would have been taken down by a pack of coyotes/wolfs. Or maybe even dogs. A painful death, huh? Well if you're shot, you don't even feel the bullet. You go into a haze and die. Peaceful compared to getting chased down and ripped apart until you bleed to death by a pack of animals when you get old, huh? And what if the coyotes/wolves went extinct? Then it would be the hunters' job to keep the deer population down. We don't need to go into what happened there again, do we? Besides, I killed one deer. If there are seven hundred in my area alone, then one deer won't hurt right? Well actually I wasn't the only one to kill a deer that night. Other hunters bagged a few. But still it wasn't enough to cause world doom.
This is hunting. Nothing gross, mean, or inhuman about it. I would rather be shot in the head then ripped apart from wild dogs, wouldn't you? Besides it's not like we are killing the whole forest. I enjoy a walk through the woods. Birds will be singing and a creek will be flowing by. Babbling brook . . . Hardly. That's only in every good and detailed books, dudes. Now a days, thanks to pollution, things are a lot uglier and bleak. So next time you think about throwing out that soda you're done with, think again. You may be in New York, but down here in redneck country, I can see your damage.
Author's Note: This is my opinion. Don't go and cry over the deer, it wasn't a real one. Yes I have killed a few though. Suck it up and see what trouble you're causing over little things that make the world go round. I still am normal, because down here everyone hunts. The deer aren't all dead yet are they? And they survived the Great Depression. I think they are gonna make it. Now, let's go see how many hate mails I have. Oh boy, can't people be more flexible and actually THINK?
