Have you ever been in love? Or for that matter, thought you were in love?
Many people claim that they are/have been in love before . . . but how many of these people can we actually believe?
Over the years, "love" has turned from a feeling into a term. The term love is being terribly overused. The feeling, we don't really know.
So what is love? Can anyone define it? Do you have to be a certain age? Are there any requirements for being in love? Well, as far as I'm concerned . . . no. The only requirement for being in love is love itself. This may not be entirely true, but are there really ANY truths to love?
The Misconception of Love
Apparently, now if you've been dating someone for . . . hmm . . . let's say around a week or so, you're suddenly "in love" with them. You suddenly "love them so much" and "don't know what you'd do without them". Most love misconceptions occur with younger individuals or people new to relationships. Let's say a range from around 11-15?
From what I've seen, it seems like people who first begin dating are in such a rush to go into something "long term". Which to them is maybe around three weeks? Suddenly you decide that this person, your first boyfriend/girlfriend, is the one you want to spend the rest of your life with. You never want to believe that one day it's going to end because everything seems absolutely insanely perfect . . . because you think you're in love.
I've been in a couple "misconceptions of love" relationships. One of the guys I'd been dating was constantly telling me how much he was "in love" with me and how I was his "everything" and we'd only been dating for around 4 days. It's one of the most uncomfortable positions to be in; you hear this person telling you how much they supposedly love you, and you don't know what to say back because you're not sure if what you're feeling is love or even if the other person really does love you. You don't want to say it back because you don't want to hurt anyone, but then again you want to say it back so the conversation isn't so awkward.
I'm not sure if anyone else has seen this happen or had it happen to themselves; but a lot of people I know tell their boyfriend/girlfriend that they love them only over the computer or text message. They never say it in real life. I wonder why . . .
The Feeling of Love
As I said before, love is probably a word that will forever go undefined. With all the TV shows and the couples you see walking around school holding hands, a lot of kids feel like they need to hurry up and "fall in love" with their "soul mate". But love isn't just "deep admiration for a person or object" like the dictionary says . . . it goes deeper. I've heard numerous amounts of people say that when you're in love . . . you just know it. There's no wondering in true love, there's no "I'm not sure", there's no confusion. It's just plainly love. And I'm pretty sure if you're really in love with a person, you could say it outside of the computer.
The Pain of Love
Songs, poems, TV shows, movies . . . so many things that revolve around the pain in love. If love is so perfect, how is there any pain? There's so many answers to that question. The person you think you love doesn't feel the same, love is too overpowering and stressful for you, you fear love (philophobia), or you're just too in love to handle it. The pain in love is more of a mystery than love itself, so I can't really elaborate much further on it.
Conclusion
Alas, love is a very complicated subject. It's tough to talk about, it's tough to comprehend, it's tough to feel. So here comes the real question . . . are you really in love?
