Online friends are just pixels to some people. They're just there to talk to when they're bored. I would have to disagree. My online friends are the cherries on my sundae, the cheese to my macaroni, the icing on my cupcake, the -- anyways . . .
I grew up never having many friends in real life, so in 7th grade when I found Whyville, it was one of the best things that has ever happened to me. When I became a Y-mail Helper I began making friends with some of the other helpers and soon I became a happier person. I used to think I didn't have a friend in the world, but my online friends were filling the empty spot that was never filled by real life friends.
A lot of the people I meet on Whyville say they don't care about the other people they meet on the Internet, but to me those people are truly my best friends. There are a few people in particular who have always been there for me when I needed them and I have grown closer to those people as the years go by.
Sometimes I think these people are just my "online friends". But when I think about it, I realize, these people are nothing less than my "real life" friends. The friends I have in real life are more like acquaintances. I talk to them at school, and we've shared some good times, but I rarely talk to them outside of school except for a select few.
When I get home from school my Whyville friends are the ones that I talk to every night. They're the ones I tell my problems to. They're the ones I wish I could hang out with on weekends. Most of my online friends are better friends than my real life ones. One thing is, they don't judge me, and I think it's easier not to judge someone one the Internet because you can't see them.
My online friends mean the world to me and I know that over the years I may lose touch with some of them, but I will never forget them. They have gotten me through the past couple years of my life without me having to worry too much about not having as many friends in real life.
Thank you to all of you who have been there for me. You aren't just pixels to me.
