I was sitting around reading past editions of the Whyville Times, and I started noticing how often series popped up. And so, I wanted to start my own! Of course, it took me a while to think of an idea that was reasonable and not taken. So here I am with "Exotic Animals A to Z"! Tell me what you think of it in the BBS!
The first animal to step up to the plate is the amazon river dolphin. Below is a picture.
The amazon river dolphin is a fresh water dolphin. It is medium sized and has a domed forehead. And instead of a fin it has a hump on its back. Its colors vary. When it is a "child" it is a darkish gray, then as it matures it turns pink, and as it matures to its last state it turns white with tings of bluish-gray.
Length for males is 6 feet to nine and for females is 6 feet to 8. They can weigh up to 350 pounds!
Out of the five freshwater species of dolphins in the world, the amazon river dolphin is supposed to be the most intelligent! They are also friendly and sensitive and have lived in harmony with humans for quite a few years. But as the South American tropical rainforests were destroyed, the amazon river dolphin have now become on of the most endangered dolphins.
Their diet is crustaceans, catfish and small water fish. To eat, they use the front of their teeth to grab food into their mouths and use there, stronger, back teeth to chew it up and swallow.
They are mostly seen alone, or in a medium group. They are very curious and will swim up to boats often. They make odd sounds that are clearly used for communication. They also use a scanning technique, the slowly move their head from one side to the other, searching for food. This is made possible by their flexible neck.
I hope this has helped you understand the amazon river dolphins better!
