Everything in Whyville is geared to kids. I think that "kid" is a state
of mind. It's a place everyone gets at least a peek in our lifetimes;
carefree, curious and safe.
It's "doing" things, and learning without
it feeling like school. Even the tests are fun! Finding answers to
questions that were on the tip of your tongue, and creating new
questions. Watching the parade of characters explore Whyville.
It's good to be a kid.
Whyville is great. You get to learn about clams (money). You learn the
basics of how a hot air balloon works (physics and vector forces). You
learn how to spin all kinds of different things (centrifugal force).
You learn how time works differently all around the world, and a little
bit about the different people in Whyville. We can be from anywhere
there is an internet connection and when you think about satellites,
that pretty much covers everything, AND...
We participate. We build houses, make new objects, create dance steps,
and meet new net-friends. The safaris and treasure hunts make us part
of a team. We are all responsible to help keep Whyville a great place
to be.
So how old is a kid? I don't think that there can be a kid age limit.
My niece (12) and nephew (13) and my sister (30-something) introduced me
to Whyville, and I'm having a great time. It's something you can do on
your own, but it's waaaay more fun when you start playing with real
people that you know, even your parents. Then you can all figure it out
together.
So welcome to Whyville, where we are all kids at heart.
