This rare and endangered animal is, no not a lion but a monkey!
This rare species is found in eastern Brazil. They usually are in groups of two or more. They are very sharing to others in their community and are very friendly, but shy.
They eat mainly of soft, sweet fruits. But will also eat flowers, nectar, tree sap and insects. They sleep in tree holes and usually are more active during early mornings and late afternoons.
They have small quick bodies that make it easy for them to run and swing from branch to branch. They are about 30 cm in length and they weigh in at around 650 grams (21 ounces). They are the world's smallest monkey! Their mane-like tufts of hair surrounding their body's give them their name. They also have a large and long tail. They run and jump on all fours. Their territory can range as small as 0.17 square miles.
They are critically endangered, the main problems are; deforestation and hunting. And there are few as 400 left! This number is slowly dropping. And if something doesn't happen soon, they soon can be extinct.
