Author's Note: Guys! I meant to have this in last week's edition, but, uh, something happened and I accidentally e-mailed it to my math teacher! Before you ask, I had my math teacher's e-mail address in my address book thing because I had to e-mail him a lot of things for a project and it kept getting annoying to type that extremely long e-mail address that teachers have. Anyway, so enjoy what I meant to have in the Times last week!
The Greek Theater was filled, City Workers were there, and Times Writers filled the seats. By this description, you can only imagine one event: The Whyville Times Awards Ceremony.
At least an hour before the ceremony, the writers started to filled the seats of the theater and slowly, everyone came in until all the seats were filled. Shane started his PhonyFunny Reports for the next week, Zach kept trying to get on stage and everyone was snapping screenshots. The podium appeared, a second appeared, they both disappeared and then came back before the ceremony started.
When the ceremony officially started, I began hypercamming the entire thing: I wanted to make sure I had something to document the experience, something that I could look back on before next year's ceremony. As lovedyed and AMae went through all the categories, nominees and the winners, some of the audience members (and nominees themselves) couldn't help noticing that some of the awards were given to people who deserved it less than another nominee.
When The Entertainment Article of the Year was being presented, we were faced with five nominees: rochrox with "The Funnies", ushersg with "The Genobeh Heboneg Show" and "The Super Ultra Dramatic Soapy Show", ps2man1 with "Trick-or-Treat Comic" and msof57 with "What City Hall Does on Saturday".
When ps2man1 was announced the winner, the entire Greek Theater filled with "WHAT?!" Obviously, we all thought that by Shane winning the award for only having done one comic as opposed to a series wasn't exactly . . . right. Everyone thought that Rachel or Angie should have won, considering they had an entire series going with this. (No offense, Shane.)
Even Shane thought that it wasn't right that he should have won and said:
ps2man1: o_o wow. uhm. the other people deserved it more i think, but thanks all the same.
Later, after the ceremony, a couple of my friends and I were discussing the results. We all agreed that some people who did won should not have and some of the people who didn't should. Some began complaining that it was rigged, but we all knew the real truth.
The entire ceremony was a popularity contest, just like with the Senate Race.
How many of you actually read the platforms for the Senate Race? I bet the majority of Whyville picks their friend or picks the one who, virtually, looks the prettiest.
I bet it's the same with the WTA. How many of you actually went back and reviewed the nominee's articles before you voted? How many of you voted for your friends? How many of you voted based on looks or the one who's the funniest?
Next year when this ceremony happens again and when you're voting, please, for the sake of all that is good, try and keep that in mind. Don't vote for your friends if you don't think the article was that great. Don't vote for the prettiest if they can't write at all. Go back and review the article and try and remember what you liked best about it and what you didn't like about it. Keep all that in mind when you're voting for next year's WTA.
This is Kaila, going to write my Transcendentalism paper
(Anchor come and drag me down, before I take the dive . . .)
Author's Note II: By writing this article, I know I'm going to get a TON of response and I know that most of that will probably be hate mail, or mail saying that I'm jealous of the winners. Before you even think of the perfect opening line to begin said hate mail, keeping mind that by writing this, I didn't mean to offend anyone, especially Nim and the Editor. Nim, I think that this was one of the best things to happen to Whyville and that you're especially special for thinking of this. And, of course, the Editor should get all the praise and congratulations that the winners got, especially this week, for publishing a newspaper for us to read and for making WTA possible. The nominees and the winners are amazing writers and I want to say that I love reading the Times and (I don't know about you), but my week isn't complete without it. (:
By the way, this is the only thing (besides LASPTBTOE) from me this week. I don't really have a good excuse, besides the fact that I have literally 5 tests this week that I was studying for all week (except during the WTA and the Superbowl).
Also, I would like to add that the Patriots ROCK and the Giants . . . don't. :]
