Description
A Dhloe usually weighs between 26-44 pounds (12-20 kilograms) and measures 35 inches (90 centimeters). The back of a Dhole is red and brown, while the foreneck, chest and undersides are lightly gingered. The fur of a Dhole in the Southern Ranges is short and rusty red and the fur of Dholes farther north is longer and more yellow and brown. They also have forty teeth, other then forty-two like other species.
Diet
These little dogs can eat a Sambar, which is twenty times it weight! It also eats deer, wild boar, water buffalo calves, caribou, reindeer and sometimes monkeys! For a snack it can eat wild berries, insects and rodents.
Habitat
Dholes can live about anywhere because of there adaptability. But they normally live in moist deciduous forests and thick jungles. Dholes like to live in open areas such as meadows. They need a food and water supply and large predators (for competition). Dholes originally came from South Asia but now live in numerous countries.
Life Span and Lifestyle
Dholes are very friendly co-operative animals. They live in organized groups of five to twelve (they rarely exceed 25).
Population
2,500 mature individuals remain in the wild! These cute dogs are endangered. But if the hunters continue to kill them, they will move to critically endangered then extinct!
