Editor's Note: Please join me in congratulating CupOfCake for starting her column. She has submitted many revisions for this column, and it goes to show that if you work hard it pays off. I look forward to reading the rest of her articles, and can tell you that the second one is great as well!

Hello Whyville, today is the day. Today is the day of the rest of my . . . column! You're all probably thinking "Oh whoopee" but I promise I will not make this boring. Or at least I will try not to. My new column will be directed at the mind. This means: emotions, energy, and thoughts. All controlled by the mind. This brings me to my first topic: Positivity.

I know, Whyville. When your friends are bashing a schoolmate or just a random person with horrid style, it's hard not to join in. Yet, when you start saying negative things about the person, you will find that you start to feel bad. This is because: We are all like magnets. The earth is a(n) energy force. What we put out, comes back to us. Positive or negative, in the morning or at night, it all comes back.

It's easy to be positive, once you get the hang of it. You will honestly say to yourself "What's the point in being negative?" There is no point. Once I start saying positive things about myself such as: I feel happy, I feel healthy, I feel terrific! You will start realizing that you do feel happy, healthy, and terrific. And if you say: I feel lousy, I feel sick, I feel terrible. Well you will feel lousy, sick, and terrible.

I remember when I was very depressed, had terrible anxiety, and wanted to die. Then I watched this DVD titled The Secret. At first, I still felt the same. But, I wasn't doing anything to help myself. I was just thinking to myself how bad I felt, and I noticed it was getting worse and worse each day. And like I have been saying, they say that you are like a boomerang, magnet, etc. The sophisticated way of saying it is calling it the Law of Attraction. Now, when I had depression I said to myself, "This stupid DVD doesn't work, I am being positive and this isn't just working." then I learned, you have to mean it. You can't just say "Yep, I feel great" when you don't, because that means you are lying to yourself, which is being negative.

Believing is a HUGE part of being positive. Say you want something . . . like a(n) 'A' on your next English test. You need to believe that you already have received that 'A'. You need to get emotionally excited about that 'A'. Now, you can't not study and expect to get that 'A'. You've got to study and work hard at that 'A'.

I always used to criticize one of my family members. I always felt terrible, as soon as I said it. Not being sad that I said it, but feeling depressed. I was depressed for about 4 days after the fact. I wasn't doing anything to help myself. I just kept going on and on about how much I dislike her. Then, I tried being positive and naming the good qualities of her. She has. . . nice hands, which is true. I wasn't criticizing her, but complementing her. This made me feel good, emotionally.

But being positive doesn't always mean being positive about yourself, you can also be positive about the day. Now, tomorrow morning when you wake up you can say, "This day will be great, I will be the best I can be, and I will do great in school." Once you say it you don't need to say it over and over again. If you really mean it, then it will only take 1 time.

There's another thing which is connected to positivity. You will be surprised at how much this can help you . . . changing your thoughts. Your thoughts can't hurt you, they can only bring them down if you allow them to. You can ALWAYS change your thought and even though it may be hard for you, you'll realize the positive result. And eventually it will turn into a habit.

This is CupOfCake saying; adios and have a lovely day, I know I will.
"If you can't say anything nice, then don't say anything at all." -Thumper.
