This is a special edition of the "Flawed Fashion" series because I am celebrating the disastrous celebrity styles at the 2008 Academy Awards.

Celebrities are role models for beauty and style. They constantly attend fashion weeks around the world and are found at the front row of fashion shows. They lurk in designer stores for hours and venture on extravagant shopping sprees. They are aided by several designers, beauticians, makeup artists and stylists to look beautiful. Let's face it -- celebrities are the epitome of fashion and trends. So with this much expertise, it'd hard to believe that some celebrities would have such horrendous and mind-boggling outfits at the Academy Awards. Of all places to try out a new style that you're not too sure of -- why try it at an awards ceremony that celebrates glamour?

The Worst

The first victim is actress Tilda Swinton. The fabric of her dress looks like it was derived from a cape. But it seems the designer didn't have enough fabric to make two sleeves. The most important part of wearing is a dress is that YOU are wearing the dress. Unfortunately it looks as if the baggy dress is wearing Tilda -- and not the other way around. The baggy catastrophe is too large for Tilda's petite frame. Let's save this dress 'Tilda' month of October when the scary styles are being celebrated.

Away from Her actress Julie Christie looks very stiff in this maroon-copper colored dress. Though the color matches her skin tone, the blush-pink gloves and heels do not. They are a very unusual addition to an already unusual dress. Two wrongs don't make a right. Or in this case, two fashion disasters doesn't make your overall appearance fabulous.

When someone wears an unflattering outfit, our eyes tend to focus more on the unflattering side. In Jennifer Hudson's case the dress puts more emphasis at the top half of her body rather than her body as a whole. Pregnant celebrities usually wear flowy dresses to hide baby bumps. However Jennifer Hudson's dress is hiding her beautiful, curvaceous form.

Jennifer Hudson's criticism also applies to Diablo Cody. This leopard printed dress gives the illusion that Diablo has large, round hips. Also her makeup is very outdated. Her short black hair and her blood-red lips imply she's secretly a vampire.

The Best

Rather than mostly focusing on negative fashion choices I am going to commend other celebrities for their gorgeous dresses. I will also list how to imitate them on Whyville.

Katherine Heigl looks fabulous in this Marilyn Monroe inspired outfit, which is very easy to imitate on Whyville.

Nicole Kidman's glamour-goth inspired dress fit her body well. I think Whyvillians will look just as good as she does.

I think some of you noticed that this article was a little sexist because I favored female stars rather than men. In fact, I did not include any males. Judging by the weekly comments in the BBS I can see that Whyvillians have a lot of opinions about the "Flawed Fashion" articles. Do you think I should write an article about male stars at the Academy Awards? If I get a positive response, I will write another article to benefit Whyville's flawed boys.
