Book Review: Define "Normal", by Julie Anne Peters.
This was a great book. It's about a girl named Antonia Dillon. She is asked by
her teacher to join the Peer Counseling program (PC as some refer to it.)
She thinks that it is a great idea and is happy to do it. Antonia needed an
extracurricular activity in order for her to be in the advanced placement
next year so she can graduate early and leave home. That is just what she
wants to do.
Until she meets the girl that she has to counsel, Jasmine "Jazz" Luther.
Jazz is a punker. She wears black lipstick and has purple hair. She has
tattoos, and body piercings. Suffice to say, Jazz and Antonia don't get along.
Both girls reluctantly continue their counseling sessions and soon tell
(little-by-little) each other about their troubled home life. Both girls
soon realize that they don't have it so bad after all. Jazz has to deal with
controlling, materialistic yuppie parents and their expectations. And
Antonia (or Tone as Jazz refers to her) has a depressed mother who cannot
take care of herself or her children.
Can Jazz help Antonia get through this difficult time in her life? Can
Antonia help Jazz with her life-long dream? Read this book! =oP
