Hello Whyville, and welcome to another exciting edition of "Eh! The Canada Column!" This week, we're taking you on a tour of Alberta.
First off, I have some good news! Vancyon finally found his way back to Whyville from the North Pole, so he's going to be helping me out with this edition of Eh! We also have 3 special guests lined up for the next few provinces.

On August 27th, 1927, Emily Murphy, Nellie McClung, Irene Parlby, Henrietta Muir Edwards and Louise McKinney, all womens rights activists, questioned the Supreme Court. They asked the court to analyze the meaning of the word 'persons' and decide whether or not women were considered 'persons' in the nation of Canada. Women were not allowed to run for public office at the time, but 'persons' were. The Supreme Court answered the question six weeks after taking it under consideration, and said women were not in fact, considered 'persons'. The Famous Five did not approve of this decision, and appealed to the Judicial Committee of England's Privy Council, which was the highest Court of Appeal for Canada at the time. Through this action, the famous five finally reached the conclusion that the word 'persons' included both males and females.
Jarome Ignla - Jarome Ignla (A.K.A. Iggy) is the Captain of the Calgary Flames, a professional hockey team. He was born on July 1, 1977, in Edmonton. He has represented Canada for many international competitions, including in Salt Lake City for the Olympics.
Tricia Helfer - Model/actress Tricia Helfer was born in 1974, and grew up on a farm in Donalda, Alberta. When she was 17, she was discovered by a model scout while waiting outside a movie theater. After winning Ford's Supermodel of the Year, she became a model for Elite Model Management. In the past few years, Helfer has become involved with television and acting. In 2006 she helped to produce "Canada's Next Top Model", and has been playing Cylon "Number Six" on the TV show "Battlestar Galactica".
Melissa O'Neil - This Canadian singer was the third winner of "Canadian Idol". Not only was she the first female to win, but also the youngest Idol so far. O'Neil was born in 1988, and grew up in Calgary, Alberta.
