Do you get bed head or horrible morning look in the mornings? Most people do. In fact, I don't know anyone that doesn't. Probably everyone in the whole world does! Bed head can also come with: zombie walk, pale face, bags under your droopy eyes, morning frown, humped back, and stressed out moan. Lucky for you and have some tips that are proven to cure that!
That just rolled out of bed look is awesome for skater boys and the dudes in the Abercrombie ads. For you? Not so much. As you know, putting your best foot (or head) forward is the ideal way to start the day. But you don't have to stay home and hide under the covers just because you wake up looking like a horror movie victim or Disney villain. Read and learn . . . You never need to leave the house looking like you stuck your finger in an electrical socket again!
What is bed head and where does it come from?
Bed Head usually comes from going to bed with wet hair, wearing clips or hair bands to bed, tossing and turning all night, or having a choppy haircut. The good news is that you can avoid getting it, and if you do get it, there are some easy fixes.
Bed Head is easier to prevent than it is to fix.
Wash your hair with a shampoo and conditioner made specially for your hair type. Dry your hair before you go to bed. No gels, mousses or hairspray before bed, please -- those can set your hair in ways you don't want it to go. If you do use products on your hair pretty often, go goop-free one day a week and wash it really well. If you're a restless sleeper, silky or soft pillowcases help your hair slide around while you sleep so it doesn't stick out in crazy directions. If you have long, straight hair, pull it back in a loose pony and tie it with a thick fabric band to keep it from moving around. If bike helmets or baseball caps are to blame for your messy tresses, tie a cotton bandanna around your hair under your topper for a mess-free look after your workout.
Still got bed head? Some easy fixes.
20-minute fix: Shower. Wash your hair in the morning and all traces of sleep will go away. Style. Leave the house looking awesome, as usual.
5-minute fix #1: No time to shower? Mist your hair lightly with a spray bottle. Use a de-tangling spray or bed head fixing product. Comb through with your fingers as you spray. Use only as much as you need. Otherwise you'll have a case of the greasies -- worse than bed head! Brush and style as you blow dry. This works best on fine or thin hair.
5-minute fix #2: Put it up.
Butterfly Clips -- the ones with the teeth that chomp hold of your hair. Sweep your hair back as if you're making a ponytail, then twist it up and clamp on the clip. Keep it loose and casual; it shouldn't look perfect. A few wisps hanging down on either side of your face look soft and pretty.
If you're only looking to tame the front, a fat headband is even quicker and easier.
Ponytail anyone? Stay away from tight elastic bands. Those leave marks and can break your hair. Try a pretty scrunchy that matches your outfit.
Changeup: try a high one. Pull all your hair on top of your head and secure it with a thick ponytail holder or scrunchy. Some girls we know call this a "pineapple"! So cute!
5-minute fix #3: Get out the iron. Not the hot clothes iron! Straightening irons are great at taming wild hair of any type, but be careful. Let an adult handle the hot stuff and do it for you. You could burn yourself (yikes!) and singe your hair, leading to many, many more bad hair days. Use only hair products with NO alcohol before you use the iron or you're likely to burn your hair off. A few spritzes of hairspray after straightening will set your look.
If you find you're getting bed head pretty often and none of the tips above work, a visit to a hair stylist can help. Explain your problem and your regular hair care routine. A great stylist can give you a cut and product recommendations to make messy morning hair a thing of the past.
I hope these tips helped you! They sure helped me!
