Having a word for the week is actually really fun. Shampoo12 inspired me to write about it. You pick a word by either seeing a word you've never seen before out of a book, or, you could point at a random word in the dictionary. Having a big vocabulary is very important, otherwise you can't understand people sometimes. Do you want to be the person in high school asking your teacher what a word means during a lecture? No, I doubt you do.
In class my teacher writes big words on the board and their definitions and uses them once in awhile. The words are either added when she is talking and we ask, "What does that mean?" Sometimes my friend Brett comes in to class and says, "I have a new word!" I'm actually proud of myself for understanding my sister's friends talk. I knew what kleptomaniac and vicinity meant!
Here's some words:
kleptomaniac - obsessed with stealing
vicinity - in the area
petulant - rude in speech
efficacious - effective
droll - boring
odious - inspiring hatred, contempt, or disgust
I will try to make a sentence with all of these words. I couldn't fit odious in.
In the vicinity of the droll town a petulant kleptomaniac proved very efficacious with the robbery.
I hope you will decide to have a word of the week. Trust me it's fun. Feel free to mail me some great new words.
