I've been sitting in front of this computer thinking for five minutes straight, trying to find the right words to start off this article.
Well, that's what is article is supposed to be about. Finding the right words. Ironic, isn't it?
I really like words. I use them for everything from chatting with friends to doing homework. They've just always been helpful. Sometimes they do more harm than good though.
Big Words
I really like using long, obscure words. To me, they sound elegant. When I'm speaking to someone who doesn't understand what I'm saying though, it's easy to get in trouble. I don't want anyone to think I'm talking down to them or showing off. Using big words only once in a while means annoying fewer people and avoiding distractions from the main topic.
Going Too Far
Hate is a strong word. So is love. I save them for things that really count, and don't waste my energy fighting for or against something I don't understand. I know it's okay to feel passionately
about something, but keeping things in perspective gets others to take me more seriously.
Delivery
I've found that the way I speak counts for a lot more than what I say. The phrase "I got it" is a good example. Try saying it aloud in a calm and happy voice. Now try saying it like you're ready to explode with happiness. What about if you say it like you're really annoyed? Or if you say it like you're really, really mad? Delivery makes all the difference.
Well that's it, really. I found all the words I needed to try to make a point. Now I hope you can too.
