Cady Heron (pronounced Kay-Dee) has spent all her life living in Africa with her zoologist parents. When her mother gets a job offer in America, her family makes the big move. Cady has been home schooled her entire life and her parents feel that it's time to introduce their 15 year-old daughter to mainstream schools, and sends her to North Shore High School. She soon befriends two outcasts, Janis and Damian who show her the good and bad of their school. The good: them. The bad: the envious and evil clique known as The Plastics. The clique includes dumb blonde Karen, gossip girl and renown secret keeper Gretchen, and Queen Bee Regina.
Janis: That one thee, that's Karen Smith. She is one of the dumbest girls you will ever meet. Damian sat next to her in English last year.
Damian: She asked me how to spell orange
Janis: Gretchen Wieners knows everybody's business, she knows everything about everyone.
Damian: That's why her hair is so big, it's full of secrets.
Janis: And evil takes a human form in Regina George.
Damian: She's the queen bee - the star, those two are just her little workers.
Upon meeting Cady, The Plastics immediately invite her into their clique. Unsure of what to do, Cady asks her friends Janis and Damian for advice. Janis sees this as a perfect opportunity to get revenge on Regina because of a middle school incident. She tells Cady to pretend to be friends with The Plastics while the trio secretly sabotages them.

Cady is a math wiz, but she begins focusing less on math when she develops a crush on Aaron Samuels, a senior in her Grade 12 Calculus class. However, Gretchen and Karen tell Cady that she is forbidden to like Aaron because he is Regina's ex-boyfriend. Though Cady isn't allowed to like him, she realizes that she can still talk to him and sneakily begins getting close to Aaron. Devious Regina learns about Cady's crush and realizes she doesn't want Cady to date Aaron. So Regina decides to take Aaron back. When Cady sees the pair kissing, she agrees to knock mighty Regina off her throne. Three things make Regina who she is: her hot body, her friends, and her on-again boyfriend Aaron. Cady begins manipulating Gretchen to find out Regina's weaknesses as she slowly starts becoming the new Queen Bee . . .
Cady: I had to pretend to be plastic.
Janis: Hey, buddy, you're not pretending anymore! You're plastic! Cold, shiny, hard plastic!
I love this movie because it is absolutely hilarious! Tina Fey, former writer for "Saturday Night Live", was inspired to write the screenplay after reading the book "Queen Bees and Wannabees" by Rosalind Wiseman. The movie also carries the growing issues facing teenagers, such as sex, drugs, relationships, acceptance, peer pressure, what is considered geeky and cool and the need to look a certain way. The morals of this movie can easily be remembered through the memorable and funny quotes. Lindsay Lohan did this movie before her drug addiction and rehab stints so her acting ability is still in tact. But I was more impressed with Rachel McAdams portrayal of Regina George, who played the evil pretend-friend perfectly. I wasn't disappointed with Lizzy Caplan's role of Janis Ian either, but her fans will be surprised to see that she is unrecognizable in the movie. Rent Mean Girls today and laugh forever!
