You stare at that blank piece of paper, ideas floating around in your head. "What should I write?" you think to yourself. You start a couple of sentences, stop, and then rip the paper to shreds. I know you want to journal, or why would you be reading this article! I used to have those problems, too. Then, I realized some important things, and with my help, you will be journaling like crazy! Well, let's get started!
Okay, first off, we need a journal. I use a lined composition book, but anything will do. Do you like to draw? Then get a journal with unlined pages. Do you need something portable? Then get a medium sized notebook. Even a binder with some paper in it will do! Just make sure it isn't just a loose sheet of paper, or some curious eyes might drift toward it and turn the contents into a huge rumor!
Also, make sure to get a pen or a pencil. Tie it to your book, or latch it on to the book somehow. I like pens because most of the time, they have those things that are supposed to go onto your pocket. I put them on the cover of my journal, instead.
There are three main rules to journaling. Here they are.
1. Bring your journal everywhere you go. There's always a possible event that could happen at any time! For example, let's say that you were just doing some shopping, when your crush comes up to you and asks you out. MAJOR AWESOME! If you forgot your journal, you might forget all of the details and then you are just out of luck!
2. Never rip out any pages of your journal. What if there was something important on the back of the paper, or what if there was one of your secrets there! If you threw that into the wastebasket, someone might fish through the basket and then see your paper! Now, wouldn't that be embarassing!
3. Don't limit yourself to just writing. Do whatever you want! It's your journal after all! It's not as if your teacher will give you an 'F' if you draw something! I like taping photos on my paper and then writing captions underneath them for a lift-the-flap effect. Tape ticket stubs, notes that you passed, anything goes! I also like lollipop wrappers. Those always add a pop of color.
Do you have your journal now? Now take a black sharpie and write your name on it. Done? Good. Now, flip to the first page and let's start journaling!
Now, this is what I put on my first page. You can do the same, or just get into journaling.
For the heading, I put, "About me".
First, I wrote my name.
After that, I wrote my age.
Then, I wrote my height.
Next, I wrote my hair color.
Then, I wrote my eye color.
After that, I wrote what grade I was going into (or what your occupation is, if you're over 18).
Next, I wrote my favorites, such as color, food, and hobby.
Here is an example, using a 13 year-old girl named Anistasia Talkalotagofskychalk:
About Me
My name is Anistasia Talkalotagofskychalk.
I am 13 years-old.
I am 5' 3"
I have brown hair
I have blue eyes
I am going into 8th grade
My favorite color is green
My favorite food is Chinese.
My hobby is reading.
If you are the drawing type, then draw a picture of yourself and label all of the points that we talked about above.
Well, that's about it for today! Tune in next week for more ideas! In the meantime, journal about events, vacations, just life! What I write are only suggestions. It's your job to journal by yourself. And, if you don't like my ideas, modify them so that you are satisfied!
