Everywhere you go in Whyville, you can tell. Beaches are becoming less crowded, fewer and fewer y-mails make up your mailbox, there are fading memories of good designers from the past, fewer articles in the Times, and if you are a veteran, you may be drifting away from Whyville. As it seems, this is Whyville's dark days.
Beaches used to be the most popular hangout in all of Whyville. Sometimes you wouldn't be able to get into them because they were so full, and the times you could there was no place to stand. Today, the beaches are almost deserted.
The ever popular Sun Roof used to be filled with veterans. You were lucky if there was a space open for you. Go there today, and you will find that there is only one or two people. Some days, 99% of the people there will be Newbies, and then 1% is Oldbies.
Remember when you could look up "hair" in Akbar's Face Mall and you could find all sorts of wonderful hair? Today, it's filled with stupid little signs and scribbles. Unless you know a good hair designer, you are most likely out of luck for finding awesome hair.
There used to be so many articles in the Times, it was hard to read them all. Today, there are fewer articles in the Times. Another sign of the dark days is there is at least one article every week complaining about Pearls, no more WhyPasses, the new layout, and how they are now quitting Whyville because of the change.
Whyville is so concerned with getting new everything. New systems, new layouts, and new people. But in this process, they are loosing Whyville's oldest and cherished citizens. The more they gain, the more they loose.
The City Workers swear that they are doing this for the good of Whyville, but if it's really going to make our virtual home better, why are we loosing so many of our friends?
I am not the only one who notices this. I was at the Sun Roof, and it was filled with Newbies. One other girl and I, were the only Oldbies in the room. The other girl was devastated seeing the Sun Roof (which used to be the biggest hangout for Oldbies) overpopulated with Newbies. She wanted to find her friends, but they weren't there. She was upset about what Whyville was coming to.
I interviewed some Whyvillians at South Beach to see what they had to say about this.
ocean10kv: Are you noticing that more and more Oldbies are quitting Whyville due to the new Pearls system?
Peeta: Yes! Very much, but not just the Pearls, the new look AND defiantly the PEARLS.
max216: Mhm.
14jessy17: No not really but I don't think they like the idea of it.
Paramore: Yes actually because my sister on here is thinking of quitting cause she thinks it is a big mess up and so do I.
ocean10kv: Do you think that there are less and less people everywhere you go on Whyville?
Peeta: Mhm.
max216: No.
14jessy17: Yeah there are.
Paramore: Yes because today I was on all day and at 3:00pm there was nobody on.
ocean10kv: Do you think Whyville is gaining, or losing more citizens?
Peeta: I don't know, about the same number because we are losing a lot of Oldbies, but people are spreading the word about Whyville.
max216: Yes, losing.
14jessy17: Losing.
Paromore: Losing because people are getting tired of the whole Oldbies vs. Newbies, rich vs. poor.
So there you have it! It's Whyville's dark days. I can only hope that we can get out of it, and move on. Create a better, older, happier, Whyville.
