I can not express how amazingly thrilled I am to say that us the Americans have just elected the very first black president. Words can not show the thrill rushing threw my body, the urge I have to jump out side and scream with happiness. This is a great day for America, and I think we should celebrate.
Sure, when I went to the local church and voted at the kids vote, I did not color in the little circle by Barack Obama's name. I did in fact vote John McCain. I bet this sounds sort of weird, right? I'm completely thrilled over the election of someone I personally didn't vote for. I'm not sarcastic. I am one hundred percent serious here. I'm not crazy. I'm not insane. I'm proud to be an American.
Like I said, I'm not insane. Here's my reasoning. Every year, day by day, us American's change. Maybe only a little bit, or maybe one day, we change dramatically. But even as we change every day, we are still Americans. We are in this amazing country. Every day people tend to misunderstand how great we have it. Barack Obama becoming the president, to me, is just an example of how great we really have it.
Years and years ago at one time people like Obama would have been unwelcome in this country. That was just a part of our past, and there isn't anything we can do to change t hat. Well, back then, do you think that if you asked random people if they believed someone like Obama would ever have a chance of becoming president, they would full heartedly say yes?
Well, to me it seems that no, most people would not be able to truthfully say that they believed that a black man would become the President. I think that just shows how far the United States of America has come as a country. Now, I think we even have proof that this country I am proud to live in has opportunities for so many. You just need to go out there and get them.
Of course not everyone in this world is going to see this man sitting at the White House and feel as pleased about our country as I am. But saying that's just because of Obama's skin color is ridiculous. No matter who you are, no matter what your views, not everyone is going to like you as the person who gets to fulfill the highest rank in the U.S.A.
Yes, the fact that a man who has opposing ideas on what I believe as the president makes me wonder, even makes me slightly afraid, but by no means should that make me hate Obama. But the fact that this one man has achieved such greatness in our wonderful country, such that many would think is impossible. This man shows exactly what this land of opportunity is all about, and I just can't help being happy.
