We all love Whyville, right? And we have all heard creepy stories about Internet stalkers and such. But, do we really understand the dangers of giving out personal info on the web? Probably not.
I hope this article will give you some insight on what COULD happen and sometimes WILL happen, so watch out!
IF...
Someone asks you for your first AND last name are, DON'T tell them! That information is for you to know and them NOT to find out!
Someone asks about your e-mail address, DON'T give it to them. Why do
they care?
Someone says, "What's your phone number?" don't even think twice: keep
this information CONFIDENTIAL!
Someone tells you they know you and begins to ask you questions about yourself. DON'T believe them, they just want the information to put in their file marked 'Little Girls and Boys, 411'.
Someone why-mails you and says mean things to you. 911 them immediately (unless it was something you brought on yourself), and keep the why-mail only long enough for City Hall to read it and make sure it was sent to you.
Exceptions...
- If you know the person you're chatting with in real life.
- If you know the person you're chatting with in real life.
AND...
- If you know the person you're chatting with in real life!
I did not write this article to scare you. I wrote it to inform you. This is a
topic EVERYONE should acknowledge, not ignore! I like Whyville, you like
Whyville, and there are things we don't want to believe about even Whyville, even though they are true. Keep this in mind, and remember...
IT'S YOUR LIFE, DON'T TAKE ADVANTAGE OF YOUR PRIVILEGES!
Let's keep Whyville safe!

Note from City Hall: I'd like to advise that there be no exceptions, whatsoever, even if
you do know the person in real life. That's because sometimes, as you all know, it's not possible to tell who is really behind that face you see in Whyville! Maybe your friend has been hacked? Maybe they are away from their computer? Do not ever give out personal information over the Internet.
If your friend in real life wants to know, they can ask you in person, in real life!
