Author's Note: This poem was inspired by the life of Jonathan Larson.
Tick, tick . . .
Lying on the living room floor
Reaching for the knob of a distant door
My heart is leaving, just when it's full
I wanted to tango so I'm paying the toll
Tick, tick . . .
I couldn't stay with it, I couldn't decide
Surrounded by choices, I wanted to hide
Three belts, Northampton, Captain Kangaroo
But the master of music gave me something to pursue
Tick, tick . . .
Only Twinkies can heal a broken smile
I just want to be young again for a while
Is this the life? This is the life!
But where is my dog, my child, my wife?
Tick, tick . . .
Before I go, one song of glory
I feel so lucky that I told my story
I've lasted all night, I see the coming dawn
By the way, I should tell you, my name is Jon.
