Many scientists believe that temperatures are rising globally because greenhouse gases are trapping heat in the Earth's atmosphere. Everyone contributes to the production of these greenhouse gases. Your individual contribution is sometimes called your "Carbon Footprint" because carbon dioxide is the most common greenhouse gas. Every time you drive in a car, eat any food, or turn on your lights, you are increasing your carbon footprint. It's not possible to have a zero carbon footprint, but we can all try to reduce ours as much as possible.
The Whyville Carbon Calculator shows how your activity in Whyville might contribute to greenhouse gases in Whyville. To use it, drag the sliders to estimate your participation in each activity per week. This is not a test! There is no right answer. Just be as truthful as possible. Your best estimates will help us figure out how different Whyville visitors behave differently.
Thank you in advance for your participation!
