Whyville Service Debate

Sonner
Times Writer

Hey, this is Sonner again with a complaint about the Whyville Service Report!

I think what POUTINE is doing is totally unfair! How would you like it if you have a history of some bad stuff you did and regret? We can let the City Workers handle this. I mean, you warn City Hall about this person and the person may just be mad or mad at someone, so you decide to warn City Hall. City Hall can punish people herself!

Also I think it is dumb about how they will design their uniforms and other things. Are they just designing uniforms so they can be noticed?

I think having a record about you is just awful. Whyville was made to have fun and learn. When they warn City Hall about us, it might give the City Workers an impression that we are bad Whyvillians when we really aren't. Basically what the Patrol Officers are doing is tattling on people who may use a minor cussing word. Sometimes it slips out. Other Whyvillians can be the problem too, and the patrol might not see this. They bug you, so you fight back.

I think everything else is okay with the Service Report I just don't like the idea of having patrol officers watching us when City Hall can see us!

Sonner.

Note from City Hall: Thanks for your opinions, Sonner! Personally, I believe what POUTINE wants to do is essentially what every citizen should do: report bad behavior when you see it, as described in the Whyville Callbox. If it's a minor offense, it's not worth reporting.

I think POUTINE's goal is to help keep Whyville clean and safe, and I applaud that. And I think that what you're saying is, you don't want Whyville to become so clean and safe that it becomes a police state, where everything you say and do is recorded and held against you -- and I applaud that as well. You should see what some folks in the U.S. government think about that, though! A lot of lawmakers want to make it illegal for kids (especially those of you 13 and younger!) to chat on the internet AT ALL!

Let's be glad we have the community we have -- safe AND free -- and remain committed to keeping it that way!

Thanks for being true Whyvillians, both of you.
