Hello there Whyville! I've decided that since I'm obsessed with this CD, I should recommend it to you. So I'll tell you a little bit about some of the songs, give you some pros and cons, and hopefully you'll love it as much as I do!
Avril Lavigne's fourth album, the songs are pretty personal. She uses a central theme that we all see in music, but brings it to a whole new level. I can personally connect with most of her lyrics. Even if it's only a fraction of them.
"Black Star": the opening track on this album, it's not what I expected. Contrary to Avril's acoustic rock/ prep-punk style, this song opens with several seconds of gorgeous piano. The lyrics are inspiring, as she sings to us to be who we want to be, don't let anyone bring you down.
"Smile": the fifth track on this album, I can relate to everything up until the second verse. Then things get a little iffy, but I still relate to the chorus. This is something most teenage girls can understand.
"I Love You": This song is number 7 and I fell in love with it. It describes one of my previous relationships and how things went, and I love how I can be like, 'Wow, it seems like she knows what I'm thinking.'
"Everybody Hurts": number 8 on the CD, this is my theme song. It's exactly how I feel on a daily basis. I can honestly say that there is nothing about this song that I DON'T get. And normally there's something in a song that you can't connect to because you don't share the writer's experience, but this song is different.
"Alice": Who watched the "Alice in Wonderland" remake? This is the song they play at the end of the movie during the credits. It's really good, kinda eerie sounding, and I think that's what she was aiming for when she wrote it.
Highlights of this Album:
You will most likely be able to relate to at least one song on this CD. If you don't, you don't have a heart. No, I'm kidding. But seriously.
Avril's lyrics on this CD give me a whole new outlook on love. I tend to think it's evil. But in like four of the songs, she's talking about how a guy broke her heart and she's okay with it because it's going to make her stronger and that she still loves him no matter what.
Sore Spots:
If you know who Avril Lavigne is, you know that she swears in her songs. There are four songs on this CD that aren't exactly PG language. I'll put a star in the track listing next to them.
She also references drinking in a few songs, those songs will be double starred.
Overall Rating:
7 out of 10
I only knocked off points because this has to be a kid friendly review! If the swearing and mature references were trivial, I would give it a 10.
