Cold breath whispers near her ear
As she looks around frantically in the dark
Footsteps, louder, growing near
They've found her; if she runs, she won't make it far

Faster and faster,
"We're coming for you
You don't have much time dear
That much is true"

They lurk in the shadows
Preparing to pounce
Her screams pierce the air
Her eyes bright with fear

The monsters, the bad things
They're always on her trail
She tries so hard to get away
But somehow they know just which way she takes

They read her mind, heart, body, and soul
They always know which way to go
They taunt her with ruthlessness
Laughing at the way she loses control

Her nails bite into the palms of her skin
She knows there's no way she's going to win
She crouches low in a corner and covers her face
"Just please make it quick," she thinks in disgrace

'I can't do this anymore
Just leave me alone
I can't hide anymore
When they already know

My deepest darkest secrets
And my oldest memories
They pry open my heart
While I'm fast asleep

They burn every good thought
Leaving the dark ones behind
They throw chaos around,
Raiding my mind

Why can't the monsters just leave me alone?
Please, let me be, I just want to go home
But where is home? I don't even remember!
They took that away too, 10 years ago, in December

The bad things grow stronger and rise off the ground
They claw through her mind once more, taken what's left to be found
She rocks back and forth in a ball, in a corner
She doesn't have strength to speak aloud anymore

She's given up her fight, she lets the monsters take over
She opens her eyes, they're bloodshot; she's no more
It stares blankly ahead, eyes focusing on nothing
Finally finding the fragments of the shattered mirror, it looks straight at me
