It was a dark and stormy night in the middle of nowhere, where we had all pretty much lost hope. We knew we weren't in Canada, and we were too far out across the sea to be in America. We were filled with bewilderment, as we all yelled at the top of our lungs, "Row, row, row!"

I managed to climb to the highest part of the ship, to look out yonder, trying to spot some land for us to escape the torture of the ocean. "Land Ho!" I cried, filled with excitement, as we might just live another day. We all caught a second wind and began to move at a faster pace. We had been at sea for at least 12 days with nothing to eat nor drink, and all signs of hope had been lost.

During the 250-meter dash which felt like forever, I noticed something -- it was the first time in days that the crew was really working together. I suppose it was because we all had a new hope shining among us, or perhaps it was the shock of being so close to shore. Whatever it was, it was working; we made it to land at last.

We found a giant cave and decided that would be our resting-place for the night. One by one, we jumped into a deep sleep, dreaming of creating a new civilization. We all woke up at around the same time; some had to be woken up and others were up already. That day we explored from north to south and east to west, searching for god knows what. Once we knew where everything on the island was, we decided to hold a meeting among the people.

The meeting took place at noon, when the sun was still shining high in the sky. An idea was brought up that we build an economy and begin to live here; after all, there were certainly enough resources. So we took that idea and brought it to action. After I'd say about 6 months we had a nice little village and we had help from people joining our little village to make it bigger and bigger.

After a while we decided we needed a name. Since I was the person who found the island, I got to choose. I chose Whyville, because it is a place of exploration and learning. Today Whyville isn't just a town; it's become more like a city, because of the increase in population. Things are good here.

Hope you enjoyed this little story,
