This is actingup9, and I've noticed something getting more popular as we chat in Whyville. That something is the internet chat lingo.

How is chat on the internet different from a spoken conversation with someone? Well, typing on keyboard can take a lot of time and others can't see your expressions. People who use the internet come up with two shorthand techniques that help make internet chatting a little less confusing. These techniques are also used to put expression in the conversation.

They are called emoticons and acronyms. The emoticons are pictures made out of letter, numbers and punctuation marks, such as :(, or feeling sad, they show feeling. An acronym is a set of initials or parts of words that replace a series of words, such lol and asap.

Here are some common and some fun, new ones, enjoy!

Emotions

:) -- happy
:D -- happiness
:( -- sad
(=^;^=) -- cat
})i({ -- butterfly
:-):-) -- twins
=l:-)= -- Abe Lincoln
:-: -- alien
8-) -- cool
:o} -- embarrassed

>}}}'> -- fish

%-) -- talked all night
:-)'" -- tends to drool
c=:-) -- chef

Acronyms

LOL -- laugh out loud
BRB -- be right back
G2G -- got to go
B/F -- boyfriend
G/F -- girlfriend
B/C -- beauty contest
TC -- take care
AFK -- away from keyboard
WTG -- way to go
SYS -- see you soon

These are just some of the main ones, and you may know more. I just hope you learned something. Remember, the internet chat lingo makes chatting on the internet easier and filled with more expression!
