You've probably heard of Laura Ingalls, from "Little
House on the
Prairie" and other Little House books (written by the real-life Laura Ingalls-Wilder, who wrote the stories based on her own life and family!
I have an "exclusive"
interview with
the sweet and beautiful Laura Ingalls!
Q: Were you sad about leaving your home, relatives and
friends?
A: Yes, I was a little sad. But I was also looking
forward to having an
adventure!
Q: Were you and Mary bored while you were in the back of the
wagon?
A: We were fairly bored but we were very excited about going
into Indian
Country!
Q: Were you scared when you couldn't find Jack?
A: I was extremely worried, I love Jack very much.
Q: Did you enjoy camping?
A: I loved camping, it was so different.
Q: How long did it take to build your house?
A: I can't remember exactly, but it took a very long time.
I'm glad Mr.
Edwards helped us!
Q: Did you prefer helping Pa build the house or looking after
Baby Carrie?
A: Helping Pa, I love helping Pa. For me, looking after Baby
Carrie is so
dull and boring.
Q: How did you feel when your house was finally finished?
A: I was very excited. I had waited so long for it to be
finished!
Q: What did you think of the foal, Bunny?
A: I thought she was beautiful! I desperately wanted to pat
her but Pa said I couldn't.
Q: What were your thoughts when the wolves were chasing Pa?
A: I was very worried. All I could do is pray.
Q: What was going through your mind when the Indians were in
your house?
A: A lot of thinks. I didn't want Ma to give the Indians the
items. I didn't
want them to hurt us. I wish Pa had been there. I was so
frightened.
Q: What did you think of the deserted Indian camp?
A: I thought it was fantastic! Mary and I found so many
beautiful beads!
Q: Why did you give your beads to Carrie?
A: I wanted to keep those pretty beads but I couldn't let
Mary be better
than me.
Q: How did you feel when you were ill?
A: I felt appalling. I am very grateful that Mrs. Scott and
Dr. Tan looked
after me and my family.
Q: What made you pull back the rocking chair when the chimney
was on fire?
A: I wanted Mary and Carrie to be safe because I love them
very much.
Afterwards I was very proud because I was such a brave little
girl.
Q: Who was the tall Indian?
A: The tall Indian was an Indian man who came into our house
and ate our
food. He didn't say anything but Pa said he spoke a bit of
French!
Q: How was your Christmas?
A: Excellent! It was the best Christmas ever. I'm so glad
that Mr. Edwards
was able to bring Santa Claus's presents to us, because the
creek was flooding and only Mr. Edwards could get across it!
Q: Were you sad about the fire on the prairie?
A: Yes, I was sad and frightened but I didn't have much time
to think
because we were in such a hurry. The fire had not missed us
by far!
Q: Did the Indian war-cries scare you?
A: I was terrified; I wanted Pa to be all right (he had gone
out to
Independence), and I wouldn't go to sleep until he came home. I'm
so thankful he
was okay!
Q: Why did you want the Indian baby?
A: Oh, Erin, I really wanted that baby the way it looked at
me with its
beady black eyes, I just wanted it to stay with me but we
already have baby
Carrie.
Q: Were you sad about leaving the little house?
A: I was very sad, leaving our neighbors who were so kind to
us, our crops
and most of all, the little house. I had even helped build
it! I am so angry
that the government made us leave!
Q: Are you looking forward to another adventure?
A: Yes, I'm always looking for adventures. I wonder where we will
go this time?
Q: It was pleasant talking to you, Laura.
A: Same to you!
