First there was Giggler01, followed by OrEoBaBy, Sonner, DivaSis and
most recently softbll12. In case you don't know what I mean yet, I am
talking about Whyville's past and current Senators!
As we are approaching the election date, I guess the question on
everyone's mind is, who will be the next Senator of Whyville? Will it
be Hotboi764, Hiphop26, or Coconut02? I guess we'll just have to wait
and see, won't we?
I think the senator race is a really interesting process to watch. It's
great that we can get a little idea of how politics works, while having
fun at the same time. In countries like Canada, the United States and
several others, too, many people are not exercising their right to
vote, unfortunately. Here on Whyville we learn what we should and
shouldn't base our votes on, which may inspire us to vote in the real
world when the time comes. So in that sense it is really good.
However... lately I feel like it's happening way too often. Don't get me
wrong, it's great that more people will have an opportunity to become
Senator and all, I just think it would be a little better if we had
more time in between elections.
I know that the Senators are having meetings, and they do actually
suggest and present ideas to the City Workers that Whyvillians have
come up with, as well as their own. Yet for some reason, I still feel
like we aren't really involved. It's like we vote and then that's it
until the next election.
I would like the Senators to have more meetings announced to the
public, like they did a couple of weeks ago. That was good because
going to these events gives us a little insight as to what's going on.
I have also heard many citizens say that they feel that the Senators
don't do anything. This, of course, is not true; however, more should
be done to let us know what exactly is
going on.
A couple of months ago, I saw a suggestion that the Senators write to
the Whyville Times. I agree with that. Maybe we could have a little
Senator's Corner in the Whyville Times! In that section they could
basically tell us about any plans that are taking place, how they are
feeling about certain events, any changes we should expect (that
doesn't have to happen -- I like surprises sometimes), and any ideas
that are being put into action, or being considered.
I'm sure the Senators are doing a fabulous job; however, it wouldn't
hurt to let us know a little more about what they're doing.

Note: Thank you for your input kc12! Citizens, what do you
think? How do you suggest the Senators communicate with Whyvillians
more? Do you think the Senators should be required to write to the
Times, and how often?
As for the timing of things, that's because our three senators each
fill their role for six months. We figure asking for more time from is
probably too much, and less means a lot more elections! So we have
elections every two months. How do you think we should change it? Or do
you think the way it is now is probably best?
