Hey hey Whyville!
Let's get artistic! That's what Whyville's newest game is all about -- sponsored
by the J. Paul Getty Trust. Getty ArtSets is a matching game using paintings, photographs and other images from the Getty Trust's Museum. It's the first of a series of activities that "the Getty" will be sponsoring on Whyville in our very own Getty
Museum!
The Getty is a fabulous, stylish art center located in the hills of Los Angeles, where you'll find European paintings, drawings, sculpture, illuminated manuscripts, decorative arts, and European and American photographs. They also have a cool tram ride up the hill, with a great view of the L.A. area! And at the nearby
Getty Villa, art historians are working to prepare exhibitions of Greek,
Etruscan, and Roman art.
The Getty Trust funds a variety of wonderful projects, including research, conservation and education in the visual
arts -- now including Whyville! The Getty wants to get more kids interested in
art. We're thrilled to be working with them to bring art appreciation and
understanding to our many wonderful citizens like you.
Whyvillians can look forward to an Art Treasure Hunt game in just a few months.
If these two art games turn out to be as popular as we think they will be, the
Getty might sponsor even more games in Whyville! So, don't forget to spread the
word and get your friends to check out the Getty on Whyville with you.
As for our latest game, you may have already read about the beta version of Getty ArtSets that was available in Club Why for the past
few weeks. Here's what a few of your fellow Whyvillians had to say about the
game when they first played it:
"i think that artsets is a good game because it teaches people about the
different types of media and that art doesnt have to be a painting or a drawing
it can also be a photograph or a sculpture." --Bprint66
"It was very good, and the fact that we learn about art, something that makes
our life full of color, is even better!" --dreame04
"I think it is a great way to see what some other people do to express
themselves as artists. This game inspired me to paint and be more artistic." --why17191
"artsets is a WONDERFUL and challenging game its very fun though i LOVE playing
it especially with alot of people" --bbopgal
"Artsets! Wonderfull way to show Whyvillians how education art and historical
paintings and photos can be, also tied together with a game! I applaud you
Whyville with this, well, MASTERPEICE! Keep up the good work Cityworkers, and
thanks for Whyville." --Hand11
"This is a really cool game because it really excersizes your mind wsith the
quick thinking and the logic." --RyRa
"This game is a great way to learn about how to compare and contrast paintings,
while also learning about the different styles of many artists. Some paintings,
photos, and drawings actually got me interested in learning more about the
artist." --ABbayb290
"It is somewhat of a brain teaser sometimes!" --MiDxNiGhT
"This new game was very helpful in my art class. I was haveing problem in unit
two Paintings Photographs and Sketches. Now, I able to pick out all three no
problem, and my art mark has already gone up 10 percent! But that isnt all I
liked about ArtSets. The game was fun and we sertainly did need another form of
art on Whyville besides the face factory. Finaly, we will be getting paid clams
for our artism!" --iamcoolew
"I think this is really a beneficial game. I've seen nothing like it before so
it's really cool and it helps us kids think." --godschld1
"Really fun! I love different types of art! This really helps you understand
different types of art you may be interested in, or good at, or both! Thanks so
much for the new game WV! :D" --wildfire9
"well i got 2 of my friends to play and it was really hard but it was also fun
cause some of the pics made us laugh! laugh out loud" --notty13
If you weren't fortunate enough to get into Club Why to play that early draft of
ArtSets, well today's your lucky day! ;-) The latest edition of Getty ArtSets is now available to all
Whyvillians at our brand-new museum. Enjoy!
