If you live in America, you know a big tradition after church in the fall...
FOOTBALL! Well folks, I am from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and if you have been following
the news lately, you know that our team is almost at the Super Bowl.
Author's Note: What follows is really random, but it will make sense
once you read all of it, I hope.
My dad is a brain doctor, so I have never really been into football. I go occasionally
to my high school team's games, but they're really bad. But last night, the
world changed... at precisely 4:47 p.m. Eastern time yesterday, I found myself
watching the Steelers game on TV. Big mistake! You know how you watch a game
and wonder if somehow your watching it made the players play better or worse?
Well, Ben Roethlisberger, our phenomenal rookie quarterback, played a really
rough game that game. I felt so bad for him.
Fortunately, Jerome Bettis made up for Roethlisberger's less-than-perfect play.
With 0:10 seconds to go in the final quarter, the Jets were using time up so
if they missed the field goal, the Steelers couldn't do anything. As the clock
hit 0:00, I screamed! The Jets' kicker had missed their last-second field goal!
It was a tied ball game. On to overtime!!
I screamed and yelled and screamed some more. My voice was so raspy, I desperately
needed water. For the next 20 minutes, give or take a few, I watched the TV
intently. The Steelers got the ball and got it to the 40-yard line... the 30-yard
line... the 20... and finally they got to the 18-yard line. Then, field goal!!!
Steelers win!!!
My little sister got some confetti poppers and we popped them. Big Ben (the
quarterback) didn't look too happy, but they made it!
Only one more game 'til the Super Bowl!

Editor's Note: It's great to see some sports
reporting in the Whyville Times! Let's hope some folks also report on the AFC
& NFC championship games this weekend, and then of course Super Bowl XXXIX,
too!
