'Tis the coming of St. Patrick's Day in the United States and across the globe; a day to celebrate the Irish in all of us, they say. Will you join me on a hunt for four-leaf clovers?
From learning the myth of the leprechaun and his pot o' gold to admiring the generous life of St. Patrick himself, St. Patrick's Day encourages us all to indulge in fun and festivities. This year, the Emerald Isle -- as Ireland is known -- comes a little closer to Whyville in the form of clover patches, appearing all over our little town on March 17, 2005.
What's so special about the shamrock? Well, you can learn about its significance to St. Patrick in another article in this week's Times, but shamrocks take on a whole new significance here in Whyville this year. Find a four-leaf clover, and you're in for a big surprise....
Yes, get your magnifying glass and hunter's cap out, we're on a search for the most elusive of all tiny plant life, the four-leaf clover. Hidden behind these magnificently mutated shamrocks is the best pot of gold in Whyville -- a Why-Pass!!!
City Hall is giving out lots and lots of Why-Passes this St. Patrick's Day. (Check back here next week to find out just how many.)
I guess that's what St. Patrick's generosity inspires!
The shamrock search will work in a very similar way as the Easter egg hunt did last year, for those of you who were around then.
