King Kong manages to fill up the theater at virtually every showing time. Why? Perhaps it is the film's mystique, or the suspense, or the multi-layered emotions in it. Then, there is the possibility of how cool it is to see a giant rampaging monkey on screen. On a scale of one to ten, I would rate the movie King Kong a whopping ten.

Despite the fact that this movie is about the third remake of Kong, it manages to carry the plot line from the recycled idea of an ape attacking New York City and turns it into a whole new story.

It is an adventure story. It is a love story. It is a story of boundless affection that penetrates even the most ferocious of beasts. Director Peter Jackson (Lord of the Rings series) does a wonderful job mixing every emotion together in this film.

Now, by no means is this only a mushy-gushy love story. Most of the movie kept me on the edge of my seat, with all of the creatures and perils that the travelers faced. I watched in fascination as they went through the mysterious jungle. Surprises popped out at me from every aspect of the movie!

One of the big factors that made the movie seem real was the graphics. Every detail looks real and believeable. The movement of the computer-generated animals looks smooth and natural, and the King himself is very realistic in his appearance, with his scars and matted fur.

King Kong features an all-star cast, including Naomi Watts, Adrian Brody, and Jack Black. (Factoid: the man who did the movements and voice of Gollum from Lord of the Rings does the movements of King Kong. He was put into a small room and "acts out" King Kong. They then digitized his movements and in a sense, turned him into King Kong!)

This movie is a bit lengthy . . . three hours! But to me and to everyone else I know who has seen it, it was worth it. King Kong is definitely my favorite movie of the year, but keep in mind that it is PG-13 and is not appropriate for all ages. If you go and see it, enjoy!

Editor's Note: I just recently saw King Kong as well, and second your review. It is an excellent movie and a real thriller! Another fact about it is that Peter Jackson was paid 20 million dollars to direct the film, the most a director has ever received prior to production. But, I am sure others will agree with me when I say he did an amazing job!
