February the 14th is approaching rapidly. With only a few days to go, stores like Wal-Mart and Hallmark are overly crowded with people, searching for a box of chocolates or a teddy bear to give to a sweet heart.
Love is in the air, but so are broken hearts. So, instead of worrying about who cupid is going to shoot the love arrow out and snag for you, be happy however Valentine's day turns out. Be your own valentine!
Think: no having to buy new capris and jewelry for the day, no worrying about when you're going to be able to find the perfect gift for Mr. Wonderful, or anticipating the moment he calls.
Plan an activity with friends such as manicures or facials! It actually could be fun. Do anything that keeps your mind off of lovebirds. Don't worry about the chocolates either, statistics show that approximately 24.6 pounds of candy is devoured per person each year, of which most is consumed on Valentine's day! 1,006 factories nationwide make chocolate candies specifically for Valentine's Day, while only 619 factories make non-chocolate confectionaries.
While flowers are a cool way to express something withouth words, but they can also cause you to remember past memories that would be better if they were left forgotten. Another poll shows that $425 million dollars are spent on roses and other cut flowers each Valentine's day! (Maybe I should dig out our gardening shears and put up a for-sale sign.)
So there you have it -- way too much money is wasted on a holiday that has no use -- you can go on a date any time! Spend your special day on Whyville raising your salary, chilling at the North Beach, or making some valuable trades.
