Escape the Drought

Rexyp1 issues a challenge.

I was so excited to open up The Whyville Times last week. I love to read what other Whyvillians have written and I also have an anxious feeling in the pit of my stomach, wondering if my latest piece has been accepted. But, I was disappointed. Not because I didn't find my article there. It is because there were only 15 articles; 1 Help, 7 Poems, 1 Creative Writing, 5 articles in People and 1 Hot Topics.

The Times has been experiencing a drought. It is not uncommon to only have fifteen, if not less that, articles. And at least half of them are poems, maybe a short story or two, every once in a while. One or two articles in People and one in Hot Topics. This is just sad. So sad.

Juno

by Kaplooey2

Juno moved forward in the tall grass. It had to be at least 90 degrees outside, and his body armor wasn't helping his cause. It has been 4 months since he was shipped off to go fight in World War III. The world was starving, and all the major countries of the world were fighting over the meager supply of oil, food, and land. Weather was out of control as well. Even though we managed to slow the process of global warming, we had still changed Earth's climate, earthquakes, tornadoes, hurricanes, and tsunamis were breaking the land up into chunks of sand and mud.

Even though the world was in chaos, Juno believed that they could dig their way out of the pit they had fallen into. He believed that the world was theirs to own, therefore theirs to take care of. Juno's father was a scientist, and only a few days before his death, he told Juno that he was close to a solution, but never told Juno what it was. However, locked away in his basement, lay the machine that could change the world.
